Digital Element Enhances IP Geolocation with Advanced French Regional Data

Digital Element Introduces NetAcuity Pulse Plus, the First IP-Based ZIP+4 Location Targeting Solution

New Offering Layers on to Mobile-Device-Derived Data to Provide Marketers with More Granularity

Atlanta, GA – April 20, 2016 – Continuing to address mobile marketers’ growing needs for more accurate and deeper data, Digital Element, the leading provider of IP Intelligence and geolocation solutions, today announced the newest edition to its NetAcuity platform of products with the introduction of Pulse Plus, the first IP-based ZIP+4 location targeting technology.

Pulse Plus is a first-of-its-kind ZIP+4 targeting solution that combines the device-derived data of NetAcuity Pulse with Digital Element’s proprietary technology that produces reverse-geocoding data feeds. Available for flat-file implementation, Pulse Plus combines this new intelligence with geographic shape and boundary files to produce the next generation of ZIP code targeting within the United States. Additionally, the Pulse Plus ZIP+4 data can be combined with demographics to produce even more granular and precise targeting for marketers.

“When we launched NetAcuity Pulse in 2014, it was the industry’s first mobile-centric IP targeting solution, and we have continued to research and develop the product in order to provide new depths of precision,” said Rob Friedman, executive vice president, Digital Element. “Pulse Plus represents the next evolution of the product, delivering the first comprehensive IP-to-ZIP+4 targeting offering that provides marketers with even more granularity. So many of our customers already use demographic data, but now they can combine that with Pulse Plus for more precise targeting. This will allow marketers to more accurately segment―and target―audiences with relevant messages wherever they live, work, travel and shop.”

ZIP+4 data is especially beneficial to marketers that want to target very specific audiences concentrated in more pinpointed locations within the United States. The following are examples of how companies across a number of industries can use this type of precision targeting:

  • Restaurants may drive in more local diners by advertising specials to neighborhoods/businesses with ZIP codes within a 5-mile drive of the establishment.
  • Universities might advertise to ZIP codes that contain large high schools, encouraging students to visit the campus to learn more about higher-education opportunities in their local areas.
  • Retailers may drive in-store traffic by targeting ZIP codes with certain household incomes or business locales near other establishments (i.e. hotels, restaurants, etc.).
  • Political campaigns can deliver specific advertising and messages to key constituents in local districts, for example where voter turn-out is low or where candidates want to gain grassroots momentum.

In terms of ZIP+4 data granularity, these digits identify more pinpointed areas—such as a group of apartments or office buildings—or a high-volume mail receiver within a five-digit delivery zone to help with mail sorting and delivery. The sixth and seventh digits of ZIP+4 indicate a “delivery sector,” such as a group of streets, P.O. boxes, a group of buildings, or even a single high-rise building. The eighth and ninth digits designate a “delivery segment,” such as a specific side of a street, a floor in an office or apartment building, or a specific department within a large office.

Coppel Deploys Digital Element’s Geolocation Technology to Better Serve Online Shoppers in Mexico

Department Store Chain Looks to Enhance Customer Service and Achieve Faster Deliveries

ATLANTA – March 8, 2016 – With the number of online retail sales in Mexico projected to significantly increase in the coming years, Coppel S.A. de C.V., a large Mexican retail chain with thousands of stores throughout the country, has selected Digital Element, the leading provider of IP Intelligence and geolocation solutions, to provide IP geolocation technology to support its newest e-commerce project.

Coppel currently offers a wide variety of products including electrical equipment, electronics, furniture, and apparel. The chain, that currently operates 1,280 stores in Mexico, Brasil and Argentina, is undertaking a new e-commerce project to bring better service and ease of purchase to those customers shopping online. With distribution points in the double digits throughout the country, it is important for Coppel to be able to show customers products that are both relevant to their regions and available for delivery.

There are currently 14.3 million digital buyers in Mexico (12 percent of the population) with the number of buyers projected to increase substantially to 23.6 million by 2019 and account for $13.3 billion in sales.

By incorporating Digital Element’s NetAcuity Edge™, a global hyperlocal IP geolocation solution, Coppel will be able to serve its customers relevant content based on the their geographic locations. According to Alan Sobrino, e-commerce merchandising manager at Coppel SA de CV, the addition of more accurate and reliable geo-data coverage for Mexico is expected to decrease distributions costs and increase customer satisfaction for the company.

“When the data is fully integrated into our e-commerce systems, users’ cities will be identified automatically so that Coppel can better respond to the customers’ local demands,” said Sobrino. “This will allow us to achieve faster delivery by serving an online catalog that represents products that are currently in-stock locally, provide the best shipping costs possible, and give the customer a very positive web experience. Digital Element was the only company to be able to provide this type of data granularity in Mexico, according to our findings.”
Coppel enlisted the assistance of a third-party IT consulting firm to verify the data. Tests were conducted using data from the company’s log and e-commerce systems. The results accurately matched all cities to distribution systems, ensuring that the logic was in line with the company’s e-commerce goals.

“Mexico definitely represents an emerging digital retail market,” said Jorgelina Striedinger, Latin America business development director for Digital Element. “The market will only continue to grow as mobile device ownership increases and more consumers grow comfortable with making purchases online. Forward-thinking companies such as Coppel are preparing for this now with technologies that impact their online and mobile initiatives on a number of fronts.”

Coppel has also integrated GeoMprint, Digital Element’s new reverse geocoding solution targeted at mobile device traffic, which will allow the retailer to better serve mobile users in real time.

Coppel joins Digital Element’s other high-profile customers in Mexico, among them, BBVA and Televisa.

Globo Play is a digital video platform that allows viewers to easily access programming―journalism, sports and entertainment―on computers, smartphones and tablets.

“Consumers expect content that is relevant locally, and content producers expect their rights to be protected,” said Igor Macaubas, globo.com’s OVP product manager. “As a company, we can’t accomplish either unless we have extremely accurate geolocation data. The combination of Digital Element’s data granularity and reliability with its customer support allows Globo to segment its video content across Brazil with confidence.”

Pulse expands the coverage reach of the global postcode-level targeting offered through NetAcuity EdgeTM by leveraging new insights derived from Wi-Fi connected mobile traffic and infrastructure. This more precise targeting is based on where a user is located and connected at a specific point in time, regardless of device. Information can include whether the user is in fact coming through a Wi-Fi connection point, the user’s point-in-time geographic location, and whether someone is on a home or a business hotspot (which may call for traffic to be handled differently).

During the evaluation process, globo.com extracted a database with 13 million IP addresses from its video access log and found some big discrepancies in reports from other providers. According to Macaubas, there were solutions that could not even return geolocation data for 2 million IP addresses. NetAcuity Pulse not only returned geolocation data for all the IP addresses, but was also the most accurate of the solutions that were evaluated.

“globo.com conducted a very extensive evaluation of all data, comparing a number of different sources, and found NetAcuity Pulse to be the most accurate at the city level in all of Brazil,” said Jorgelina Striedinger, Latin America business development director for Digital Element. “Globo is definitely implementing the most effective digital rights management tool in the market to ensure its delivering the best video products to its viewers while adhering to its partners’ distribution agreements.”

Globo joins Digital Element’s other high-profile Latin American customers, among them Televisa, Muchoviaje, Despegar.com, Sony Music, CNN, Microsoft, Omniture and DoubleClick.
