  • Named Technology Pioneer by the World Economic Forum
    • The Technology Pioneer community recognizes early-stage companies from around the world for their design, development and deployment of new technologies and innovations poised to have a significant impact on business and society.

2003

  • Named Technology Pioneer by the World Economic Forum for second consecutive year
  • OTT provider CinemaNow becomes a customer focused on localization and content protection. While better-controlling access to their content was the primary focus, so was ensuring that certain countries were blocked and proxied users were identified.  This could be looked at as the birth of Digital Rights Management for streaming.

2004

  • A patent was issued for the company’s automated traceroute technology, securing its status as the inventor of geolocation technology and recognizing it as a pioneer in IP Intelligence. This put the company on the fast-track for solutions used in a variety of internet applications and industries.
  • Crackle (aka Grouper) became a customer with interests in localization and content protection; they licensed our proxy database for embargo blocking and authenticating valid users.

2006

  • Sony purchases Crackle and becomes DE’s largest streaming client.

2009

  • Digital Element introduces NetAcuity Edge, the first validated, global, partner-contributed geographic ZIP code- and postcode-level data. This non-cookie-based dataset provided the market with a highly accurate hyperlocal IP geotargeting solution.

2010

  • First major growth in the commercial VPN markets forces a review and focus on more targeting capabilities for all circumvention traffic types.

2011

  • With the number of IPv4 addresses running out, the company unveiled a first-of-its-kind IPv6 database to help companies proactively prepare their services and content for the impending transition to IPv6. The new NetAcuity database helped ensure access to the largest segment of end users and devices.

2012

  • Launched NetAcuity Developer’s Edition for evaluation, small deployments, and developmental purposes.

2013

  • Major market shift towards streaming platforms/providers Issued a patent was issued for Digital Element’s hyperlocal geolocation technology
  • Digital Element starts to segment circumvention traffic types - identifying and naming them specifically to educate clients.
  • Digital Element earned accreditation from the Media Rating Council, the independent industry organization that ensures valid, reliable and effective audience measurement services, for its NetAcuity platform―becoming the first IP geolocation provider to gain MRC accreditation.

2014

  • Digital Element introduced NetAcuity Pulse, the industry’s first mobile-centric IP targeting solution. This addition brought new levels of device intelligence to help marketers reach an increasingly growing base of Wi-Fi users and fill the mobile gap.

2015

  • Digital Element begins offering daily access to its VPN/Proxy DB updates, giving customers even timelier data for analysis.

2016 - 2017

  • Clients collaborate with Digital Element to identify common end-points on their side to enhance circumvention traffic identification/context

2020

  • Growth in the industry is focused around “residential proxies”; Digital Element works with clients and partners to better identify this emerging type of web traffic.

2021

  • Digital Element acquires MadX to bolster its product offerings and technological expertise in VPN and proxy traffic analysis.
  • In recognition for its ability to protect the streaming media industry from piracy and other digital rights infractions, Digital Element is named to 2022 Streaming Media 50, Streaming Media’s annual list of the most important, most innovative, and most interesting companies in the online video space.

2022

  • Digital Element introduces Nodify, a new part of the company’s IP intelligence solution suite that provides critical context surrounding VPN traffic, enabling cybersecurity teams to understand the level of threat such traffic poses, as well as set policy around that traffic.

2023

  • In recognition of its ability to protect the streaming media industry from piracy and other digital rights infractions, Digital Element is named to the 2023 Streaming Media 50 list for the second consecutive year.
  • Ongoing collaboration with clients and partners on identifying residential proxies for DRM.
  • Digital Element introduces the IP Characteristics (IPC) database to enhance our Nodify threat intelligence platform by offering additional context regarding IP address attributes.
