Department Store Chain Looks to Enhance Customer Service and Achieve Faster Deliveries
ATLANTA – March 8, 2016 – With the number of online retail sales in Mexico projected to significantly increase in the coming years, Coppel S.A. de C.V., a large Mexican retail chain with thousands of stores throughout the country, has selected Digital Element, the leading provider of IP Intelligence and geolocation solutions, to provide IP geolocation technology to support its newest e-commerce project.
Coppel currently offers a wide variety of products including electrical equipment, electronics, furniture, and apparel. The chain, that currently operates 1,280 stores in Mexico, Brasil and Argentina, is undertaking a new e-commerce project to bring better service and ease of purchase to those customers shopping online. With distribution points in the double digits throughout the country, it is important for Coppel to be able to show customers products that are both relevant to their regions and available for delivery.
There are currently 14.3 million digital buyers in Mexico (12 percent of the population) with the number of buyers projected to increase substantially to 23.6 million by 2019 and account for $13.3 billion in sales.
By incorporating Digital Element’s NetAcuity Edge™, a global hyperlocal IP geolocation solution, Coppel will be able to serve its customers relevant content based on the their geographic locations. According to Alan Sobrino, e-commerce merchandising manager at Coppel SA de CV, the addition of more accurate and reliable geo-data coverage for Mexico is expected to decrease distributions costs and increase customer satisfaction for the company.
“When the data is fully integrated into our e-commerce systems, users’ cities will be identified automatically so that Coppel can better respond to the customers’ local demands,” said Sobrino. “This will allow us to achieve faster delivery by serving an online catalog that represents products that are currently in-stock locally, provide the best shipping costs possible, and give the customer a very positive web experience. Digital Element was the only company to be able to provide this type of data granularity in Mexico, according to our findings.”
Coppel enlisted the assistance of a third-party IT consulting firm to verify the data. Tests were conducted using data from the company’s log and e-commerce systems. The results accurately matched all cities to distribution systems, ensuring that the logic was in line with the company’s e-commerce goals.
“Mexico definitely represents an emerging digital retail market,” said Jorgelina Striedinger, Latin America business development director for Digital Element. “The market will only continue to grow as mobile device ownership increases and more consumers grow comfortable with making purchases online. Forward-thinking companies such as Coppel are preparing for this now with technologies that impact their online and mobile initiatives on a number of fronts.”
Coppel has also integrated GeoMprint, Digital Element’s new reverse geocoding solution targeted at mobile device traffic, which will allow the retailer to better serve mobile users in real time.
Coppel joins Digital Element’s other high-profile customers in Mexico, among them, BBVA and Televisa.
