CNP EXPO SAN FRANCISCO and ATLANTA – May 22, 2019 – Digital Element, the global geolocation data and services provider, announced today during CNP Expo that NS8, a fast-growing ecommerce SaaS company that combats online fraud, will incorporate a number of its NetAcuity® datasets to enhance risk-assessment solutions for online businesses.

NS8’s technology uses behavioral analytics and real-time scoring to optimize and protect online stores against threats such as transaction fraud, advertising fraud and site reliability issues. The addition of multiple IP datasets from Digital Element into NS8’s proprietary EQ8 Scoring Engine™ will strengthen the real-time, accurate intelligence that it provides its clients.

“Digital Element is an unquestioned leader in global IP intelligence, and we are extremely pleased to be deploying its NetAcuity datasets into our risk scoring,” said NS8 Chief Technology Officer Sam Sesti. “Being able to leverage Digital Element’s vast proxy database, reverse-geocoding data feeds, and other datasets will be a tremendous asset for us in accurately identifying malicious activity. This technology integration is another big step forward in the enhancement of our solution.”

NS8 will incorporate the NetAcuity Pulse Plus™ geolocation solution. NetAcuity Pulse Plus is a first-of-its-kind ZIP+4 targeting solution that combines device-derived data with Digital Element’s proprietary reverse-geocoding data feeds. Additionally, NS8 will utilize the company’s extensive proxy database that is updated daily, as well as other different IP datasets outside of geolocation.

“Retailers’ demands for data are only increasing as various types of online fraud grow and continue to negatively impact the online shopping experience,” said Rob Friedman, co-founder and executive vice president, Digital Element. “Information is the new currency in the retail world. NS8 has recognized the power of combining our reliable and highly accurate datasets to build strong digital intelligence to help assess―and ultimately prevent―real fraud threats.”

Digital Element’s IP datasets will be incorporated into the next NS8 software release, tentatively scheduled for June 2019.

Both companies are participating in the CNP Expo, a leading e-commerce conference and expo focused on payments and fraud, in San Francisco this week. Digital Element is exhibiting at Booth 613, and NS8 can be found at Booth 507.

New Survey Shows More than 50 Percent of Digital Marketers Are Concerned with Data Exhaust

Majority of Respondents Say Using an Extra 25 Percent of the Data Their Companies Throw Away Would Result in Increased Revenues

Clickadu logo

Atlanta, GA – October 24, 2018 – As data has become increasingly more important in today’s business world, marketers have become very aware of the value it presents in terms of generating additional revenues for their companies. However, a majority of marketers are concerned about the valuable data their companies may be discarding, according to a recent Digital Data Exhaust Survey conducted by Digital Element, the global geolocation data and services provider. The survey results were released today during the RetailLoco event in Atlanta.

The survey, conducted in partnership with the Location Based Marketing Association, showed that digital marketers recognized data exhaust as a growing issue for their companies. Data exhaust is a term used to describe the data that companies toss out because they feel it provides little or no value to their core business. The majority of respondents―regardless of company type―were either very (39 percent) or somewhat (29 percent) concerned with data exhaust. Almost one-third of digital marketers did not know the percentage of data their companies actually threw away. Another 18 percent indicated they were throwing away at least 25 to 50 percent of their data.

“This survey was designed to explore whether or not companies were throwing away valuable information that could ultimately help them generate additional revenues,” said Rob Friedman, co-founder and executive vice president, Digital Element. “Our company’s technology and services are built around non-invasively extracting and synthesizing data points for advertising, personalization and analytics as well as other business applications. There is a wealth of intelligence contained in an IP address that many companies overlook―and which, if used, would allow companies to confidently produce the necessary one-to-one digital marketing experience that more closely resembles the real world.”

While almost 40 percent of respondents said they were fully leveraging the types of IP data that were available or that they needed, 61 percent of digital marketers left plenty of room for improvement because they were not utilizing all the different data points available to them or were not aware of the different types of data associated with an IP address.

Among the survey’s other findings:

  • With an opportunity to use an extra 25 percent of the data they currently discard, 60 percent of respondents said it would definitely result in increased revenues.
  • 71 percent of digital marketers ranked location data as very important:
    • 55 percent were currently using location-based IP data.
    • 32 percent planned to add it in the next 12 to 18 months.
  • 78 percent of respondents ranked accuracy as their top concern when specifically related to IP data.

“As we approach a projected 20-billion-plus ‘connected things’ by 2020, data―in particular location data―will become more and more vital to business’ success, and the methods and strategies for visualizing and analyzing that data will become equally complex,” said Asif R. Khan, founder and president, Location Based Marketing Association. “Companies that can mine and analyze the data, effectively closing the gaps, will become the leaders in location intelligence and be the biggest beneficiaries in today’s digital marketplace.”

The Digital Data Exhaust Survey represents responses from 100 digital marketing professionals from around the world. The survey was primarily administered to the LBMA’s global membership, online and through phone calls during July and August 2018. Responses were also elicited from digital marketing executives outside the LBMA membership, augmented through email and social media outreach.

An Executive Summary and a full downloadable version of the survey results are available here.

Platform161 enhances advertising platform with Digital Element’s IP Intelligence solution, NetAcuity Pulse

Industry-leading IP geolocation technology deployed to boost targeting performance

Platform161 logo

London, UK – October 9, 2018 – Digital Element, the global geolocation data and services provider, has today announced that Platform161, a leading programmatic advertising company that operates worldwide, is taking its targeting to a new level by upgrading to NetAcuity Pulse™.

As a specialist DSP, Platform161 focuses on being flexible and customisable, creating bespoke digital ecosystems for advertisers, agencies, and publishers. It prides itself in the accuracy of its database and ability to deliver localised campaigns in any market with specific targeting requirements.

Having launched its partnership with Digital Element in 2011 with the adoption of its NetAcuity Edge™ solution, the upgrade to NetAcuity Pulse increases Platform161’s reach, accuracy, and targeting ability by harnessing new insights derived from combining WiFi connected mobile traffic and internet infrastructure analysis. This provides Platform161 with unrivalled IP-based geographic targeting precision for online advertising across multiple devices, further reducing wasted impressions and increasing ROI for its clients.

“We recognised from the outset that the geotargeting data available from SSPs in bid requests would not deliver the level of accuracy we require and chose to partner with Digital Element for its solid reputation and highly granular data,” commented Themer Abourayan, Chief Product Officer, Platform161. “By upgrading to NetAcuity Pulse, we’re able to offer our clients improved targeting capability with the most precise data available – allowing them to make their own specific offer within tight catchment areas and with varying budgets. Since making the decision to upgrade to NetAcuity Pulse we have seen an uplift in delivery as having more data available to us has resulted in increased targeting matches on even the most granular geo data points.”

Digital Element’s NetAcuity Pulse uses a network of IP location information derived from mobile devices, billions of on-device-location transactions, and internet routing infrastructure. This more precise – yet privacy-sensitive – global online targeting method is based on where a user is located and connected at a specific point in time, regardless of device. Information can include whether or not the connection is being made through a WiFi network, the user’s point-in-time geographic location, and whether a home or business hotspot is in use.

Kate Owen, Digital Element’s Vice President, Northern Europe, commented: “There’s an increasing demand for tightly targeted campaigns – with relevant messages aimed at specific audiences for optimal engagement. Consumers expect it and advertisers want it – but are aware of the issues arising from unreliable data. Platform161 has data accuracy at front of mind, and its upgrade to NetAcuity Pulse means its clients can rest assured their personalised campaigns are as effective as possible.”

Digital Element Announces Industry’s First IP-to-Point-of-Interest Database for Reaching On-the-Go Consumers

New NetAcuity POI database gives marketers geo-contextual points of interest within 100 meters

POI Datasheet ThumbnailAtlanta, GA – September 27, 2018 – Digital Element, the global geolocation data and services provider, today announced its new NetAcuity® Point of Interest (POI) Database, a first-of-its-kind IP-to-POI dataset that helps to identify consumers in the immediate vicinity of nearby points of interest.

Leveraging its unique Mobility Index, which indicates whether an IP address is fixed or mobile, and the company’s machine-learning methodologies, Digital Element has made the missing connection between stationary IPs, their locations, and the points of interest around on-the-go users connecting via static IPs. This gives marketers a list of POIs within 100 meters of a consumer, and includes businesses in such categories as retail stores, restaurants, gas stations, hospitals, churches, etc.

Digital Element’s proprietary algorithms and data scientists leverage multiple inputs that will return either a one-to-one relationship for an IP address, or will provide a list of the closest POIs. By ingesting device-derived data and partner-derived POI data, the company’s unique dataset allows marketers to target consumers in real time and to attribute historical IP traffic to potential real-world foot traffic in and around brick-and-mortar locations, adding context and insights to consumer behavior from online IP traffic.

The POI database values include Instance (i.e. name of the POI such as “Starbucks” or “Red Lobster”); Category (i.e. the category for the given POI such as “Restaurants”); and ID (i.e. the NAICS numeric value for the category). For example, should a marketer want to target a category such as “Restaurants,” and a specific business within that category—such as “Bob’s National Burger Chain,”—there is the option to target on a national scale, as well as geographical regions, DMAs, city-level and more, allowing even greater segmentation and measurement control.

“We’ve seen a growing demand for Point-of-Interest data in today’s highly mobile marketplace where companies are starved for any type of reliable intelligence that could give them a competitive advantage in terms of engaging with consumers in real time,” said Rob Friedman, co-founder and executive vice president, Digital Element. “While marketers have long recognized the value of knowing consumers’ geographic locations, they are coming to realize how other geo-contextual data points can accentuate and extend their marketing efforts. Because Digital Element is already delivering the most accurate geolocation data in the industry, we felt the company was in the perfect position to provide a highly reliable IP to POI dataset of real-world places that matter―something that has been missing in the marketplace.”

Digital Element’s NetAcuity Solution Suite delivers the most accurate data in the industry. The solution’s global accuracy is more than 99.9 percent at the country level and is up to 97+ percent accurate at a city level. As for coverage, NetAcuity provides coverage for 99.9999 percent of the Internet and collects more than one million points-of-view daily. This type of accuracy and coverage is unmatched in the geolocation space.

The NetAcuity POI Database is immediately available in the United States and Canada, with plans for international availability in early 2019.

Digital Element Works with Spicy Mango to Assist with Integration of IP Geolocation for OTT Platforms

Media technology specialist supports Digital Element in providing IP geolocation technology to enforce geographic media rights globally

Spicy Mango logo

London, UK – September 10, 2018 – Digital Element, the global IP geolocation data and services provider, today announced that its IP geolocation technology, NetAcuity Pulse, has recently been integrated into the OTT platforms of some of the world’s most prominent media channels with the support of media technology specialist, Spicy Mango. The company is working with Digital Element to help clients that need to comply with geographic licensing rights when broadcasting major events across the globe.

When OTT platforms broadcast events across multiple global regions, the use of IP intelligence is critical for successful operation and management of devices and content. By deploying Digital Element’s IP geolocation solution, NetAcuity Pulse, it is possible to accurately enforce geographic media rights. In one example, Spicy Mango integrated Digital Element’s IP data for a major television network client ahead of the recent Winter Olympics in PyeongChang. This was in a private cloud-based environment with the capability to meet the audit, scaling, and security requirements for the Games. The IP data used included country, city, connection type, and latitude and longitude information. By identifying how an IP address is connecting, and where from, access to content can be permitted or restricted depending on geographic licensing rights.

Digital Element is the industry pioneer of IP geolocation technology, and its NetAcuity solution has revolutionised the IP geolocation space. By combining IP routing infrastructure analysis with anonymous location insight gleaned from a network of global commercial partners, NetAcuity provides the most detailed dataset available worldwide today that maintains user anonymity and complies with the highest standards of end-user privacy.

“Spicy Mango is a team of specialists providing media technology solutions. We understand the benefits of quality IP intelligence data, and Digital Element’s is second to none,” explained Chris Wood, CTO at Spicy Mango. “When a major event is to be broadcast across several regions globally, there’s a need for flexible technology with exactly the right datasets, all delivered to stringent guidelines, and often within a tight timescale. We’re able to bridge the gap between the client’s in-house technology capabilities and Digital Element’s IP data—ensuring media rights compliance for everyone.”

Charlie Johnson, Vice President, UK and Ireland, Digital Element commented: “We’re in the business of providing technological IP data solutions. There are times when we have the technology but there’s a barrier to adoption – be it integration, timing, client resources, or some other issue. It is great to be able to help a potential client overcome these challenges by working with a specialist supplier such as Spicy Mango.”

Sift Uses Digital Element’s Geolocation, Proxy Data to Improve Mobile App Targeting Solution

NetAcuity Edge Ensures Mobile Ads Are More Accurately Delivered on an International Scale

Atlanta, GA – June 5, 2018 – Digital Element, the global geolocation data and services provider, today announced that Sift, a mobile advertising technology provider utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning, has selected its NetAcuity Edge™ datasets to use within its mobile app targeting solution, ensuring that clients’ ads are more accurately delivered both in the United States and abroad.

With more than 1.4 billion unique profiles of smartphone users around the world and data on billions of installed apps, Sift focuses on analyzing the connections and links between apps. The company leverages all of this data and advanced AI and machine-learning algorithms to sift through more than 50 billion mobile ad requests daily in order to hyper-target app install ads for its clients. Sift works with some of the industry’s largest agencies and demand-side platforms. It has also run thousands of advertising campaigns and delivered more than 10 million app installs for some of the largest brands in mobile.

“Competition in the mobile app marketplace is fierce, so it’s imperative that we provide the highest quality of traffic for our advertising clients to help position them to secure the best possible conversion rates,” said Slawek Pruchnik, co-founder and chief technology officer, Sift. “Our platform processes more than 600,000 bid requests per second from our 11 real-time bidding exchange partners across 180 countries. We found that our previous geolocation provider was simply not returning the level of accurate IP results we required.”

Sift ran a beta test with Digital Element on the problematic IP addresses, and the NetAcuity Edge solution returned the accurate results with the required speed that Slawek was looking for. NetAcuity Edge is a global, hyperlocal IP geolocation offering that provides increased accuracy at the city/town and ZIP/postcode levels through super high-performance capabilities. In addition to the full Edge geo dataset (which includes country, region, metro, city, ZIP/postcode, time zone, lat/long, and connection type data), Sift has also deployed Digital Element’s proxy data within its technology platform.

“During the last year, we’ve seen a 25-to-50-percent increase in requests for proxy data as advertisers grow more frustrated with the impact proxies have on their digital marketing campaigns,” said Rob Friedman, co-founder and executive vice president at Digital Element. “Relying on a proxy’s IP address location often leads to incorrect targeting and wasted impressions because the user is hiding his or her location behind a proxy. Sift is an example of yet another forward-thinking ad-tech company that is including proxy information with a full geolocation data arsenal to improve efficiency and performance of clients’ advertising―helping them avoid wasted impressions and fight click fraud as well as enhance attribution and analytics.”
