Digital Element Named to 2022 Streaming Media 50
For the second consecutive year, Digital Element is recognized for its ability to protect the streaming media industry from piracy and other digital rights infractions
ATLANTA – October 10, 2022 — Digital Element, the global IP geolocation and audience insights leader, today announced it has been named to the 2022 Streaming Media 50 list of innovative companies in the online video space. Now in its fifth year, the Streaming Media 50 list is Streaming Media’s annual list of the most important, most innovative, and most interesting companies in the online video space.
“It’s an honor to be recognized by Streaming Media as an innovative company for the second consecutive year,” said Jerrod Stoller, President, Digital Envoy, parent company of Digital Element. “Content publishers need highly accurate, global IP intelligence and geolocation data to control the distribution of their assets and combat the use of VPNs for circumvention. Our expertise in IP address intelligence data puts the company in an ideal position to serve this market.”
For decades, Digital Element’s global IP geolocation data has been leveraged by streaming companies to deliver relevant programming and advertising, as well as to combat illicit viewing. However, with the growing popularity of streaming services, coupled with rising VPN usage, security and compliance teams feel a tremendous urgency to better understand the VPN market, especially those service providers that boast they enable users to circumvent digital rights access.
“The annual Streaming Media 50 list foregrounds the industry’s most innovative and influential technology suppliers, service providers, and platforms, as acclaimed by our editorial team,” says Streaming Media Editor-in-Chief and VP Steve Nathans-Kelly. “Some are large and established industry standard-bearers, others are comparably small and relatively new arrivals just beginning to make a splash. All set themselves apart from the crowd with their innovative approach and their commitment to serve the customer and advance the industry.”
Circumvention Prevention Requires a Cybersecurity Posture
Recently, Digital Element announced enhancements to Nodify, its threat intelligence solution that helps security professionals respond to the growth in the VPN market, and the threats these services can pose. Nodify builds on Digital Element’s expertise in IP address intelligence data, and continues its commitment to innovation and helping our customers remain ahead of an ever-evolving threat landscape.
Nodify data helps corporate security teams assess VPN traffic by delivering contextual insight around an IP address, including:
- VPN classification (masked, public or private)
- Provider’s name and URL
- Entrance and exit nodes
- IP addresses related to a provider
- Languages of target market
- Traffic type (commercial or corporate VPN)
- Geolocation
These insights allow streaming media companies to protect revenue by determining which connections pose risks and which connections are valid, helping to prevent circumvention activities from bad actors by identifying anonymized connections, or connections from certain geographies.
Digital Element was also included on the Streaming Media 50 in 2021.

Digital Element Enhances Nodify, Providing Security Teams With Industry Leading Insights Into Criminal VPN Usage
Recent platform updates grant security professionals access to the largest VPN detection service
ATLANTA – September 30, 2022 – Digital Element, the global IP geolocation and audience insights leader, has announced a suite of updates to Nodify™, the industry’s first and most advanced threat intelligence solution designed to help security professionals respond to the recent surge in the VPN market. While other solutions on the market claim to offer VPN usage insights, Nodify is the only offering that provides a granular look into which VPNs are being used across all devices to weed out bad actors and allow legitimate services to continue.
As tech providers expand their offerings and provide new safety features to users, Nodify gives organizations an unmatched level of detail around VPN traffic, usage, and intent, enabling cybersecurity teams to understand the level of threat such traffic poses and set policies around that traffic.
“With the growing interest in personal privacy on the web, we’ve seen many consumers utilizing VPNs for legitimate reasons, but now more and more people are leveraging the anonymity around VPNs to cloak their location and bypass geographic boundaries set by today’s leading service providers,” said Jerrod Stoller, President of Digital Envoy, parent company of Digital Element. “Security professionals need to understand the nuances around VPN usage on their platforms. For example, users who have opted to hide their personal information may not necessarily be trying to torrent illegal data from a remote location. Determining who is granted and denied access depends entirely on the granular data available in Nodify.”
Following the launch of Nodify in April 2022, Digital Element has introduced a new suite of updates, keeping the product at the forefront of VPN data reporting with the most extensive VPN detection system available. Notable updates include:
- Higher Frequency: With proxy IPS and VPNs changing rapidly, Nodify data is collected on an hourly basis and provides customers with a daily update on usage.
- Deeper Insights: Going beyond the generic VPN collection, Nodify provides users with critical insights into the VPN user, including services provided by the VPN provider such as “no logging,” “multihop,” and “corporate.” These fields help clients determine the good vs the bad based on their use case.
- Ease of Use: Nodify has a user interface that allows clients to quickly get a complete understanding of any VPN provider through a simple web dashboard.
“GPS spoofing has become a major pain point for industries ranging from streaming to gaming services. With everything from third-party apps to full-service providers now offering VPN services, it has become harder for providers to delineate what devices should be granted access. Still, accurate identification remains critical to their success,” said Jonathan Tomek, VP of Research and Development at Digital Element. “Because Nodify is API based, we’re able to provide that granular data in the moments that matter the most. Users aren’t limited to just relying on GPS data from a phone that can easily be spoofed.”
